Loud ‘boom’ rocks Eagle River

Posted

A mysterious loud boom was reported around 11 p.m. in Eagle River last Saturday night.

Some residents from across the Eagle River area said on social media the noise was big enough to rattle their windows, with many of the social media comments coming from people located just north of town. Other residents on the east side said they heard it as well, including one resident near St. Germain.

Vilas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Patrick Schmidt said the department received only one call regarding the noise at 11:06 p.m., with the caller reporting a loud explosion but no sign of flames or smoke. Schmidt said the officer on duty found no explanation for the noise.

More information will be released if/when it becomes available.
