Phelps town electors approve levy increase

Posted

Electors in the Town of Phelps voted 40-6 to approve the town’s tax levy in the amount of $1,710,898.65 to be collected in 2026, and also took action on two other items.

The town portion of the annual property tax bill for a home valued at $200,000 is expected to increase by approximately $105.80. This increase is a result of the 17.41% rise in the tax levy, which will increase the mill rate from $3.363 to $3.892.

The motion to authorize by Resolution 2025-07 the abolishment of the elected position of town constable pursuant to Wis. Statues 60.10(1)(b)4. also passed 44-2; and the electors voted, 45-0, to establish compensation for elected town officials for the next term of office pursuant to 60.32(1)(a) and 60.10(1)(b)1).

The entire budget was gone over page by page and many questions and comments were made by taxpayers. Chairman Steve Doyen thanked everyone for attending at the end of the meetings.
