Richard Voss
Richard Arthur Voss, age 76, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026.
He was born on October 10, 1949, in Beaver Dam WI. He graduated in 1968, from Brandon High School.
He received a scholarship to play football at Lakeland University. He played baseball, football and basketball in high school and college. He was inducted into Lakeland’s Hall of Fame in 1990. Richard started his teaching career and football coaching in Plymouth. A few years later he left to teach 6th grade and was assistant JV football coach and later assistant varsity coach at Oostburg. He retired from teaching in 2008.
Richard married Denise Suemnicht in 1975. They lived in Plymouth but they both loved to visit the Northwoods. They bought property in Three Lakes in 1988, and built their “retirement” home in 1991. Their son, Brian, was born in 1992. They spent weekends, holidays and summers working on the property.
Richard also loved to hunt and fish. He spent many summers playing softball on Sheboygan and Plymouth teams. His cousin, Keith Drews, invited him to go elk hunting in Colorado which was a dream come true for him. Another one was a Successful Hunt.
After the move to Three Lakes, he joined two golf leagues at Big Stone Golf Club. He and Denise played dartball for a few years.
He has done kidney dialysis for almost 10 years. He was very happy he had outlived his dad who died from the disease when Richard was 16.
He is survived by his wife, Denise; son, Brian; his four sisters , Diane Wilkinson, Donna (Keith) Bruins, Debbie (Don) Towne and Valerie Voss; sister-in-laws, Diane Chopp, and Renae (Rod) Harris; plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elva Voss; parents-in-law, Wilbert and Alice Suemnicht; brothers-in-law, David Wilkinson and Gary Suemnicht; and nephew Kirk Bruins.
A visitation on Friday, June 5, will be from 11-1 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. The service will be at 1. A gathering will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be created for local clubs and charities in Richard’s name.
Richard’s family wants to acknowledge and thank all of the Three Lakes EMTs and Chief of Police Scott Lea that responded to our emergency call. They went beyond their response. And there are no words for our friend Karl Gaffron, to show our gratitude.
