Shirley Wranosky

Shirley Mae Wranosky died on June 11, 2025, after a tough battle with dementia and a recent cancer diagnosis. She spent her last few years at Lakeside Villa in Phillips, Wisconsin, where she made the staff and residents laugh daily. They all said the same thing: "Her smile lit up the room."

Born on July 20, 1937, to Ervin and Hilda Brandt, in the Cottage Grove area, Shirley spent her childhood helping out on the tobacco farm. She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1955 and moved to Madison, where she worked for the DNR and met her husband, Chuck Wranosky. They were married on June 26, 1957, and moved to Hortonville. After three years, a transfer brought them to Eagle River, where they made a home and raised a family. Shirley worked for Vilas County in the Social Services Department and later the Treasurer's Office.

Her children became a focal part of any free time. Baking for bake sales, traveling to sporting games, and sewing costumes for the Silver Blades Ice Show filled any spare time she had.

Shirley and her family were active members of Christ Lutheran Church. She sewed many costumes for the school plays and served on the Altar Committee for many years.

After retirement, Shirley and her husband spent many weeks on the shores of Alabama. She found a few good casinos, knitted, and took limitless photographs.

Shirley's grandchildren filled her free time. She took on babysitting, traveling to their various sporting events, and knitted many sweaters for them.

There were many hours of cooking, crafts, and yard work spent together with Alex and Emerson.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; parents, Erv and Hilda Brandt; brother, Henry; and great-granddaughter, Maevyn Hegeman. She is survived by her son, Nick Wranosky; daughter, Kelly Wranosky; and two grandsons, Alex Hegeman (Michole) and Emerson Hegeman.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held a half hour prior to the service. Interment will be di- rectly after the service in the Eagle River Cemetery.
