Sno-Eagles donates $1,000 to Weekend Backpack Program

Posted

The Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club recently presented Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Weekend Backpack Program with a $1,000 donation.

The Sno-Eagles have supported this program since 2018. The money is raised from 50/50 raffles at each membership meeting. This year the donation will be matched by FORK (Feed Our Rural Kids) which will double the gift.

The funds will be used to purchase food for students from 4K through 6th grade in the Eagle River, Land O’ Lakes and Phelps Elementary Schools. Backpacks are sent home on Friday with “child-friendly, easy-to-prepare” food items providing the necessary calories to help eliminate their hunger. What began as help for one child that teachers noticed was hungry on Monday mornings in 2015 now provides support to anywhere from 112 to 135 children.

At the first Sno-Eagles membership meeting of last season, over two dozen members met at the church and filled approximately 200 bags of food to be distributed over the next two weeks.
