Trees For Tomorrow (TFT), an environmental education center in Eagle River, is now accepting applications for its two summer 2025 Environmental Education Internship positions.
The deadline for submitting applications for this 10-week opportunity is Friday, April 4. This year’s internship program begins June 2 and ends Aug. 8.
TFT provides an opportunity for interns to gain invaluable hands-on experience while making a tangible impact on learners of all ages, from preschoolers to adults. This program is designed to cultivate future leaders in environmental education by blending professional development, mentorship, and a supportive community.
Many of TFT’s professional educators, including Bethany Heft and Kim Feller, began their careers as interns.
“I didn’t set out in college to be a teacher,” Heft says. “Finding a love of education was a happy accident for me. I originally took an internship at TFT to build my public speaking skills and confidence working with groups of all ages. My college professors stressed having a resumé that showed versatility, and these skills seemed invaluable to offer any future employer.”
Both Bethany and Kim also highlight the sense of adventure and the unique experience of living in a new place that this internship provided.
Interns at TFT play a vital role in delivering high-quality environmental education. During the program, interns will:
• Assist TFT’s staff in facilitating environmental education programs tailored to diverse audiences ranging from 3-year-olds to adults.
• Work hands-on with animal artifacts such as skulls, pelts, and live education animals, gaining skills in proper care and handling.
• Build confidence in creating lesson plans and leading programs independently with minimal guidance.
• Develop a capstone project that showcases their growth and learning during the internship.
By the end of the internship, participants will have a robust foundation in environmental education—a valuable asset for any career in education, natural resources, or public service.
Applicants for this position should be 18 years of age or older, possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
