UTV driver sustains life-threatening injuries

Oneida County Dispatch was notified of a UTV vs. vehicle crash on Highway 51 and Oneida Street June 20 at approximately 11 p.m. in the town of Hazelhurst.

According to a press release issued by Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, during the initial investigation it was learned that the UTV which was operated by a 69-year old male James R. Bowman from Harshaw, who failed to stop for the stop sign on Oneida Street and Highway 51. The UTV struck the side of a Chevrolet Silverado that was travelling southbound on the highway. The UTV driver was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries.

The pick-up was operated by a 31-year old male, Nathan E. Birkholz from Mosinee who was uninjured. The passenger of the pick-up truck was 28-year old female, Tia R. Gaulke of Mosinee, who sustained minor injuries.

The Wisconsin DNR and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office are completing the accident report.
The DNR, Minocqua Police Department, Woodruff Police Department, Hazelhurst Fire Department, and Oneida County Ambulance Medic-5 assisted the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
