The Senior Spotlight series will highlight the senior athletes in the area around the communities of Eagle River, Three Lakes, and Phelps. This week, Northland Pines senior girls basketball captain Vienna Klemett is next up in the spotlight.
She has currently averaged above 20 points per game so far this season for the Eagles and hopes to continue to play the game she loves after high school. Klemett is also the daughter of Terry Klemett, the Pines boys basketball coach. Here is more on the Pines senior:
Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“I have many nicknames, but the one that almost everyone calls me is V. I’m not really sure how this nickname started, but it was when I was a freshman.”
What has the experience been like in the Pines basketball program?
“My experience in the Pines basketball program has been great this year. In the past, it had been a challenge to adapt to new coaches and low numbers. However, it has been a great experience so far for me because I love my teammates and the atmosphere it provides. My favorite part of basketball is competing and creating family bonds with my teammates.”
What is your favorite show to binge-watch?
“I don’t really watch TV shows.”
How does your dad push you to be the best player you can be?
“My dad and I are really close. At home, we don’t normally talk about basketball. My dad had never pushed me to be in a sport, but I’ve been around a gym and a team atmosphere for my whole life, which made me fall in love with the game and want to become an athlete. My dad is here to support me. He’s not at my games to be a coach; he’s at my games to be my No. 1 supporter. I’m grateful that I was given a dad who got me into the gym and to be around the game of basketball.”
Do you have an individual goal for your senior season?
“My individual goal for this season was to be captain, and Coach Halsey already allowed that goal for me to happen this summer, and I am grateful I get to lead my team this year along with Ryyn Darr. However, now in season, I would say that my individual goal is to enjoy every game and compete the hardest. This season I want to be a more controlled athlete, taking good clean shots and to be disciplined on defense.”
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
“Cookies and cream is my favorite ice cream flavor because I love Oreos, and you can never go wrong with vanilla ice cream and cookies.”
Do you have plans for after high school?
“As of right now, I am unsure what I would like to study in college. But I hope I get the chance to play basketball and study something I enjoy.”
