Jeremy LaPalm, 34, of Woodruff, was sentenced to 16 years (eight years confinement, eight years of extended supervision) on one felony count of first-degree reckless homicide/deliver drugs. It was connected to an overdose-related death in Eagle River back on Aug. 14, 2020. Conditions of the extended supervision include anything deemed appropriate by the agent, no direct or indirect contact with the victim’s family, maintain absolute sobriety, AODA assessment and follow through with all recommendations, full-time employment, leave Vilas County if the agent allows. There are 751 days of presentence credit.
Vincent Diver, 38, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded not guilty at an arraignment hearing to one felony count of possession with intent- amphetamine/methamphetamine. His bond was continued, and a judicial pretrial was scheduled for July 29 at 10:30 a.m.
Garth Deverall, 74, of Eagle River, pleaded guilty at a plea/sentencing hearing last week on one felony charge of fourth-offense OWI. Judge Daniel Overbey stayed a sentence of 210 days in county jail with three years of probation that included 60 days of conditional jail, among other conditions. He will have three years of license revocation.
Jacqueline Schuman, 62, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and was found guilty at a plea/sentencing hearing. Another felony charge was dismissed but read into the record for sentencing. Judge Martha Milanowski stayed a one-year sentence for two years of probation with conditions.
Earl Cross V, 38, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months in Vilas Jail after being found guilty of the felony. Huber privileges were granted by the court and the sentence will run concurrently with another case involving Cross.
Gerald Lakota, 54, of Freeport, Ill., was sentenced to 1.5 years of confinement and 4.5 of extended supervision after being found guilty of a felony OWI charge at a jury trial in March. There is also a $1,200 fine and costs totaling $2,577. Lakota will have 4.5 years of license revocation along with an ignition interlock device for the same time period.
Curtis Hagen, 33, of Eagle River, was found guilty of one felony charge of misappropriating ID info to obtain money. The court ordered Hagen to 60 days in Vilas Jail with seven days of presentence credit, along with paying restitution totaling $126.54 and $518 in court costs.
