FORK Legacy Gift supports weekend backpack program

Posted

The Legacy Gift Program created by Feed Our Rural Kids (FORK) was once again able to support Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church’s Weekend Backpack program in 2026 with a $2,200 financial contribution.

For 12 years the church, located in Sayner, has provided weekend backpacks to children attending the St. Germain Elementary School. In the last school year, the program supported 20 children each weekend. That number was up from just eight children three years ago.

FORK’s mission is to provide nutritional support to children from food insecure homes across Vilas and Oneida counties.

“As part of that mission we created FORK’s Legacy Fund,” explained FORK President Perry Pokrandt. “Through annual asset distributions we are able to offer financial support to other nonprofit organizations who share our interest in feeding children.”

If your organization is interested in helping feed children from food insecure homes, reach out to Perry Pokrandt at 715-410-8167 about the possibility of receiving a legacy gift.

Individuals looking to directly support the churches effort, can send their donation to Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church Weekend Backpack Program, 2903 S Highway 155, Sayner, WI 54560.

“Through this legacy gift, FORK’s goal is to shine the spotlight on the efforts of the congregation at Shepherd of the Lakes. People doing such important work can use the broader support of our community,” concluded Pokrandt.

Contributions to FORK’s Legacy Fund as part of Feed Our Rural Kids Inc. can be made online at feedourruralkids.org/legacy-fund. Donations can also be mailed to: FORK Legacy Fund, 4887 Echo Ridge Dr., Eagle River, WI 54521.

Both Feed Our Rural Kids and Prince of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church are registered nonprofit organizations.
