It was a dominant three-game stretch for the Three Lakes-Phelps softball team as they scored 52 runs on offense in three nonconference games to open the new season.

The Jays opened with an 18-3 win at Marion April 4, before dominating a doubleheader in the Dells against Rosholt with scores of 23-0 and 14-2.
Between hits and walks, the Bluejays got on the boards early and often at Marion last Friday.

Two consecutive walks in the opening inning put two on the base paths before senior Lily Gleason ripped a two-RBI double to give TL/P an early lead. They ended up taking a 5-0 lead into the second, before seven more runs crossed the plate in the second.

“Lily Gleason led the way with two hits. Malia Szews also doubled,” said head coach Jerry Adamovich.

The team did give up two runs in the first two innings defensively, but the overall performance was there for the Jays.

“Our defense was great as we had no errors,” Adamovich stated.

Gleason added her third RBI of the afternoon with a third-inning single to make it a 14-2 game.

The team went 9-23 from the plate with 14 walks and only four strikeouts. Isabella Kowalkowski, Szews, Terefech Snook, Kayla Koepp, Ashlyn Wolosek and Callie Wilson all registered one hit as well at the plate.

In the circle, Szews picked up the win by pitching three innings, giving up no hits, two runs and striking out five batters. Wilson came in for relief to pitch the fourth and fifth, and she struck out three of the nine batters she faced and gave up one hit.

On the following day, TL/P dominated a double header with the Rosholt Hornets down at Wisconsin Dells High School.

Game one went five innings after the Jays jumped the Hornets in the middle innings. The team tallied 14 hits with multiple three-hit performances. Szews went 3-for-4 in the box and scored two runs. Wilson smacked a trio of hits, including two singles and one triple.

It was a 2-2 game after the second inning before Lob scored in the third to take a 3-2 lead. From there, TL/P scored five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to pull away for its second win of the year.

Szews picked up the win with a complete game performance by pitching five innings and striking out seven in the process.

In a 23-0 win, the Lady Jays produced 14 hits again, led by multiple hitters with two or more hits apiece.

“Our hitting again was great as we had 14 hits and only three strikeouts,” stated Adamovich. “Kate Koshuta led the way with three hits, Lily Gleason had two hits (one double), Malia Szews two hits, and Riley Lob with two hits.”
Koshuta went 3-for-3 at the plate in the win and scored three runs.

The Jays produced a monster first inning by jumping ahead 8-0 right out of the gate.

The next 15 runs came in the second inning as the Jays continued to dominate the batter’s box.

In the first shutout of the season, Wilson had a strong performance in the circle against the Hornets. She only allowed one hit and struck out three Hornets.

“Wilson had a strong pitching performance and got the win,” explained Adamovich.

The next scheduled game for the team is set for this Friday, April 11, at home against Mellen. That game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The Jays will then host a doubleheader with Wittenberg-Birnamwood Saturday, April 12, starting at 11 a.m.
