The World Championship Derby Complex was the place to be this past weekend as fans watched Adam Peterson and Kody Kamm, two Wisconsin natives, sweep the pro division’s overall triple crown points races Friday and Saturday evening in Eagle River.
Peterson, of Medford, attacked the technical track at the WCDC and took a second and two third-place finishes in Friday night’s triple crown races to take his first-ever overall pro class win over second-place finisher and season points leader Emil Harr.
Kamm, another Wisconsin native, ran three consistent races to grab the win after taking advantage of other top riders who were all over the board throughout the night. It was Kamm’s first pro class win since 2023.
“The keyword for the weekend would be persevere. We worked through the weather and had six to eight feet of snow to work with, so we never got down to dirt,” said WCDC CEO Tom Anderson. “We put on two great days of racing despite the rain and 50 degrees. The drivers enjoy racing at our track.”
Anderson also said that the event is already contracted out for next year during the same weekend as this year, with racers and teams anxious to return to Eagle River.
Friday action
The pros kicked off the evening’s festivities with their opening round of triple crown racing. Peterson had a hometown crowd, and took advantage of that early, as he held the lead for the first handful of laps. Harr waited for the perfect time to pass, doing so easily, and captured an easy round-one victory on his No. 31 Polaris. Peterson grabbed second, and Hunter Patenaude rounded out the top three.
The second race for the pros was much of the same, with Harr looking like he’d sweep the evening after cruising to a round two victory. Patenaude swapped places with Peterson and finished second and third behind Harr.
It turned out to be anyone’s race in round three after Harr front-flipped his sled early in the opening lap and took a 10th-place finish. Peterson and Patenaude were tied in points heading into the final round after trading second and third positions in the first two rounds. Lone Arctic Cat rider Jacob Yurk took advantage of that and won round three, with Peterson again in the bronze medal position. Harr’s mishap in round three opened the door for Peterson to capture his first-ever pro class overall victory and added 25 points to his season total for the win.
In other action, Pro Lite rookie rider Cameron Cole spun a best lap of 30.970 in the final to capture his first Pro Lite class win.
Other Friday night winners included Inanna Hauger in the Women’s Pro-Am class, Corin Todd in the Pro-Am Plus 30 class, and Vincenzo Diorio in the Stock 200s.
Kamm’s victorious
It was finally time for Kody Kamm to get back on the top step of the podium in Snocross. For the first time in two years, Kamm drove consistent races in all three triple-crown runs Saturday night, finishing in two fourth-place finishes and one second. Top riders in the first round, like Peterson and Harr, hit road bumps in the final two races and took fifth and seventh overall. This comes after Harr swept the last three rounds in the pro class dating back to early February.
The tour hits its final stop of the season in Duluth, Minn., Friday through Sunday, April 4-6, where a champion in each class will be crowned.
