Union Congregational Church to sponsor interfaith prayer Friday

Posted

A community-wide interfaith Evening of Prayer for the government, before the onset of a new administration, is being sponsored by Three Lakes Union Congregational Church on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.
The one-hour program will consist of Biblical, nonpartisan prayers for the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government based on the Scripture, Timothy 2:1-6, 8. Participants are urged to make petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving for all those in authority so that “we may live peaceful, quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” stated Valeri Snedden, one of the organizers of the event.
“This is a very divisive time in our nation’s history and we thought it appropriate, as did our founding fathers, to gather together for a time of confession, repentance and intercession for all who serve as elected and appointed officials,” said Snedden.
The community, churches and prayer groups in Three Lakes and the greater North Woods area are invited to attend this public Concert of Prayer event.
Concerts of Prayer is a movement that originated in Scotland in 1744. Its name was coined by Jonathan Edwards, one of America’s preeminent Christian philosophers whose preaching helped spark the First Great Awakening.
