Youth anglers encouraged to participate in Sugar Camp Muskie Classic Sept. 12

Anglers are invited to sign up for the upcoming Sugar Camp Muskie Classic, a one-day catch and release fishing tournament that aims to promote youth participation in the sport of muskie fishing.

The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, and is headquartered at Pitlik’s Sand Beach Resort in Sugar Camp. Registration opens the evening prior to the tournament, at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. During registration, there will be raffles and a used bait and tackle sale in addition to a cash bar.

Organizers said this year’s tournament has expanded its waters. Each team can choose a boat launch location, and that location will determine the tournament waters the teams will fish. This year the tournament lakes are the Sugar Camp Chain, which includes Dam, Sand, Stone, Echo and Chain lakes; as well as North Nokomis, Rainbow Flowage, Gilmore and Muskellunge lakes.

From 6 to 7 a.m. the day of the tournament, boat inspections will be available at participants’ selected lake boat launch and at Pitlik’s Sand Beach Resort dock for those fishing the Sugar Camp Chain.

Fishing will take place Sept. 12 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by a burger and brat fry, awards and raffles beginning at 6 p.m.

Team entry is $200 per two-person team. A complete list of muskie classic rules and additional information will be provided upon completion of the application.

A limited number of $100 sponsorships also are available for youth participants.
